FAQs

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent Makeup is created using either a machine or a manual tool. We personally use a machine, which contains a sterile needle. The machine powers the needle back and forth which, when applied to the skin, deposits pigment to create the desired results.

Who CANNOT have Permanent Makeup?

If any of the below apply, it is not safe for you to have Permanent Makeup:

Anyone under 18 . Currently pregnant or breast feeding . Hemophilia (bleed severely) . Diabetes . Keloids / hypertrophic scarring / healing problems . Hepatitis A,B,C,D,E . Eczema / Psoriasis / Rosacea over the brow . Infectious diseases / high fever . Acne medication . Blood thinning medication . HIV . Epilepsy . Undergone any surgery in the last 14days

How do I prepare for the appointment?

The eyebrow area must be healthy and non-irritated. If you have any open sores, large raw pimples, or the skin is very dry, cracked and sore, we will have to turn you away on the treatment day. If you are not sure, please do contact Rebekah or book a free in person consultation first and she will be happy to advise.

  • Do not tan or have a sunburned face

  • No alcohol or coffee 24hrs before.

  • Do not wax, thread or tint 72hrs before.

  • Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen within 48hrs before. Paracetamol can still be taken.

  • Do not have any type of facial 48 hrs before your appointment

  • Stop using brow hair growing serums 2weeks before.

  • Do not have botox 4weeks before your appointment

  • Discontinue Retin-A at least 4 weeks prior (and avoid on eyebrow area after the procedure).

  • Refrain from using any other exfoliating products 72hrs before (and avoid on eyebrow area after the procedure).

Are the treatments permanent?

Unlike traditional tattooing, which is permanent, Machine Hairstrokes and Powder Brows are considered to be semi-permanent, lasting around 1-3 years depending on the skin type and skincare routine.

In some cases, the pigment will never entirely disappear and may leave a faint shadow in the skin, but can be removed with removal sessions. Factors that affect the retention of the pigment are:

  • Oily skin does not retain pigment well. It will fade much quicker than normal to dry skin types

  • Lighter pigments fade faster than dark pigments

  • UV rays over time can fade or discolour the pigment, so it’s essential to use sunscreen

  • Daily use of certain face creams containing Tretinoin, Retin-A, Alpha Hydroxy, Glycolic Acid can cause the pigment to fade faster due to bleaching and increased skin regeneration.

Is there a risk of having an allergic reaction?

Yes.  There is a risk that your skin will have an allergic reaction to the pigment that is placed in your skin.  However, this is very rare and why all new clients must do a patch test at least 48hrs before their treatment day.

However some rare cases the reactions have started months after the initial treatment, so a patch test wouldn’t always flag an issue immediately. If a reaction occurred you would need to seek a Dermatologist or medical professional for a diagnosis and treatment plan.  The pigment may also need to be removed.

Is it painful?

Everyone has a different pain threshold, but generally, the pain is considered to be very low and more of a mild scratchy sensation. We do apply numbing throughout the treatment but not usually before. However if you have a very low pain threshold and it will put your mind at ease, we can still apply numbing cream prior to the treatment.

How long does the appointment take?

If getting Hyperrealism Brows, this usually takes 3.5 hrs.

If getting Powder/Ombre Brows this usually takes 2.5 - 3hrs.

Within this time we will: Map out and pre-draw the new brow shape and hairstrokes with pencil, choose and mix up the pigment colour and then tattoo the approved brow shape/design.

Do I need to stop using my Brow hair growth serum?

Yes. Please stop using any hair growth serum 2 weeks before the treatment.

How long will it take to heal?

The skin will fully heal by 7-14 days. However, you won’t see the exact colour and shape of the strokes until around 4-6 weeks, which is why the top-up is after this point.

For the first couple of days, your brows may seem very dark as they start to scab over. By week two, the scabs will start to fall away, revealing light pigment underneath. Don’t panic. This is all part of the healing process. Your skin would have healed over the pigment giving it a milky look. Over the coming weeks, the skin will regenerate and the pigment will start to show through in-time for your touch up.

What is the After Care?

After care will be provided to you on the day of your appointment.

Does it work over Scar Tissue?

Yes we can safely tattoo over scar tissue unless it’s a keloid scar.  Scar tissue responds differently to healthy skin.  The ink over the scar may either heal very light, or may form dark clusters of pigment.  As artists we always use our skill to get you the best result possible.

Can you guarantee your work?

I’m afraid we can’t guarantee our work as there any many variables outside of our control that could affect the results such as skin type, lifestyle and aftercare process.

We can guarantee that we will do our very best for you using all our skills and experience.

Do you offer Microblading?

No we no longer do microblading. All hairstroke work is done with a machine which creates a more realistic finished result.
